To ask the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change when the framework for the procurement of the first generation of communication and data service contracts for the development of smart meters will be prepared; and what process that preparation will entail.

The strategy for the procurement of first-generation DCC service providers is currently being prepared by my officials in DECC, with input from stakeholders and from Infrastructure UK, who have expertise in large-scale public sector procurement. We intend to complete the strategy and begin the procurement process as soon as practicable. We will set out further details of the process and the timetable for the procurement process when we are in a position to do so.
