To ask the Secretary of State for Education whether people in receipt of a 16-19 education bursary will be able to have their payment paid directly into a bank account; and what discussions he has had with representatives of banks on the scheme.

Under our proposed arrangements for the 16-19 bursary fund, schools, colleges and training providers will have discretion to make arrangements for paying bursaries to students in ways that best fit individual needs and circumstances.

We are consulting on the details of the bursary fund and will work with the Association of Colleges, Sixth Form Colleges Forum and others to consider the arrangements, including the handling of cashless payment systems. The Department has not held any discussions with representatives of banks relating to the scheme.
