The rights and freedoms of minorities are guaranteed under the Iraqi constitution. However, I remain concerned about the number of attacks against religious minorities in Iraq. In the past six months my right honourable friend the Prime Minister, the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, my right honourable friend the Member for Richmond (Yorks) (Mr Hague) and the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, my honourable friend Mr Burt have all urged the Government of Iraq to protect the rights of all Iraqi citizens, including minority groups targeted in attacks.
