Milton Keynes council reported on their National non-domestic rates (NNDR1) budget form that 1,048 hereditaments were in receipt of a discount from the small business rate relief scheme as at 31 December 2009, A further 284 hereditaments were only paying the small business rate multiplier without being granted a discount. Information on numbers of businesses eligible for the relief is not held centrally.

The Government are taking steps through the Localism Bill to help automate the take-up of small business rate relief.
