To ask the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government whether the exemption from new regulations for small businesses announced in the 2011 Budget will apply to private sector landlords.

Where a private landlord falls within the definition of a micro business—that is, a business employing less than 10 people—our current expectation is that the exemption from new regulations will apply. However, as I outlined in my answer of 28 March 2011, Hansard, column 8W, the Government do not have plans to introduce greater regulation into the sector as a whole.
