Home Department written question – answered at on 28 April 2011.
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department pursuant to the answer of 9 March 2011, Official Report, column 1090W, on immigrants: detainees, what the UK Border Agency’s policy is concerning the retrieval of personal possessions by people who are not detained at home.
If individuals are not detained at home, for example, from their place of work following an illegal working visit, it is their responsibility to arrange the retrieval of their personal possessions via their family and friends. As stated in the previous answer, a limited number of possessions may be brought to the immigration removal centre and detainees are allowed to retain their mobile phones or use phone cards to facilitate this.
