The most recent estimate of the total annual payments for national health service bodies under signed Private Finance Initiative (PFI) contracts for hospital building schemes for 2011-12 to 2015-16 are shown in the following table.

Total annual estimated PFI payments (£ million)
2011-12 1,474
2012-13 1,592
2013-14 1,679
2014-15 1,736
2015-16 1,783

The payment figures include not just the financing costs for the initial construction but all the other services such as building maintenance and support services (cleaning, catering, portering etc.) provided over the lifetime of the contract. The figures also include an annual uprate assumption for inflation of 2.5%.
