To ask Her Majesty's Government what representations they have received from groups representing medical professionals (a) in support of, and (b) opposed to, their plans to increase competition within the National Health Service.

The department received over 6,000 responses to the White Paper consultation Equity and Excellence: Liberating the NHS. Responses contained a broad mix of support, suggestions for improvement, and critical challenge; which were drawn on to develop our proposals and translate them into legislative provisions in the Health and Social Care Bill. In relation to our modernisation programme, many respondents support our direction of travel and the changes we are making.
