Work and Pensions written question – answered at on 5 April 2011.
To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions what steps he plans to take to ensure pensioners are aware of the planned withdrawal of the top-up payment to the winter fuel allowance.
There is no change to the standard rate of winter fuel payment. The previous Government always made it clear that the additional amount of £50 or £100 was a temporary increase to the winter fuel payment for winter 2010-11.
Details of the eligibility criteria and the payment rates can be found on the Direct Gov website. Everybody who is due to receive a winter fuel payment will get a letter advising them when their payment is being made and how much it is.
