Culture Media and Sport written question – answered at on 15 March 2011.
To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport if he will put in place mechanisms to ensure the delivery of high-quality on-demand content to households which do not wish or cannot afford to pay for subscription services.
At present, we are satisfied with the current arrangements which place an obligation on public service broadcasters to make available high-quality content and much of this can be accessed on-demand without any extra charge. People also need access to the infrastructure to connect to on-demand services and we announced earlier this year our plans to create a broadband infrastructure for our country that meets the needs of all its citizens and businesses, and that will stand comparison with anywhere in the world.
