To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport what steps he is taking to increase the range, quality and availability of telecommunications equipment for individuals who are (a) deaf, (b) deafblind and (c) hard of hearing.
As part of its implementation of the European Framework on Electronic Communications, Government are supporting deaf, deafblind and hard of hearing telecoms users by pursuing the duty to promote the availability of terminal equipment suitable for disabled users through the e-Accessibility Forum, which draws together Government, industry and the voluntary sector to explore and understand issues of e-accessibility and develop and share best practice across all sectors.
One of the group's workstreams includes looking at what consumer technology and digital equipment is on the market and how issues surrounding affordability and availability of assistive technologies can be overcome.
