To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they will ensure that any National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence guidelines on quality standards relating to care for patients with long-term conditions and cancer include the prevention of pressure sores.

It is for the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) to determine the content of its Quality Standards. It does so after a public consultation and within a remit set by the Secretary of State. Details of the process NICE used can be found on the institute's website at:

The topic of pressure ulcers was referred to NICE for Quality Standard development in December 2010. The Quality Standard will cover the management of pressure ulcers in all patients.
