DECC is responsible for nuclear policy matters including the specific legislation relating to the regulation of safety in the nuclear industry-Nuclear Installations Act 1965 (NIA 65). The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) has responsibility for establishing the overall Health and Safety statutory framework to regulate industrial and workplace safety.

There are currently no plans to review the Nuclear Installations Act as a whole though some specific amendments are currently being developed to give effect to European legislation and international conventions.
