To ask the Secretary of State for International Development what proportion of his Department's budget for overseas projects was spent on projects aiming to assist women and girls in the last three years for which figures are available.
Stephen O'Brien
The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for International Development
Achieving results for women and girls is one of the Department for International Development's (DFID's) six strategic priorities. DFID aims to assist women and girls throughout its project portfolio and also supports projects targeting specific issues related to women and girls and gender equality. Due to the cross cutting nature of gender policy is not possible to disaggregate a precise figure for total expenditure on projects aiming to assist women and girls.

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
