To ask the Secretary of State for International Development what proportion of his Department's budget for overseas projects was spent on microfinance projects for (a) both men and women and (b) women only in the last three years for which figures are available.
Stephen O'Brien
The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for International Development
The requested information cannot be provided without incurring disproportionate cost. The Department for International Development (DFID) does not hold consolidated data on expenditure on microfinance programmes as a proportion of the total overseas aid budget. Nor does DFID hold consolidated data on expenditure on microfinance projects by gender.

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
