Justice written question – answered at on 19 January 2011.
To ask the Secretary of State for Justice what estimate has been made of the cost to the criminal justice system of dealing with (a) alcohol and (b) drug- related crimes in each of the last three years.
The MoJ has not carried out a systematic analysis of the cost to the criminal justice system of dealing with alcohol and drug related crimes in each of the last three years. Such an analysis would require considerable resources. However, two reports: Home Office Online Report 16/06 and Impact Assessment on the alcohol code published alongside the Police and Crime Bill provide estimates of some aspects of the impact of drug and alcohol related offending.
