To ask the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change how many reportable gas escapes were still awaiting repair in the latest period for which figures are available; and which (a) company and (b) gas network was responsible for the outstanding repairs in each such case.

This is a matter for Ofgem who inform us that they do not currently collect data on the number of escapes awaiting repair. However, Ofgem is developing a way to assess the time taken by Gas Distribution Network operators to repair gas escapes and how they prioritise their work to deal with escapes as part of the forthcoming price control.
