To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether his Department has undertaken an assessment in the last 13 years of the standard of professional education held by British-regulated bankers; and if he will consider making professional certification in financial analysis and risk-taking part of the regulatory process.

This is a matter for the Financial Services Authority (FSA), whose day-to-day operations are independent of Government. I have asked the FSA to write to the hon. Member on the issue he raises.
