To ask the Secretary of State for Justice what assessment he has made of the effect of central commissioning on local community payback schemes.

The specifications for the current Community Payback competition stipulate that a provider will ensure that the local community is able to express their views about the type of work that is undertaken and provide local forums with regular updates about the progress of projects. Liaison must also take place with the local Probation Trust and other relevant local bodies to engage in discussion concerning local requirements for Community Payback projects.
