Justice written question – answered at on 11 January 2011.
To ask the Secretary of State for Justice whether the future commissioning of community punishment will include a central role for local probation trusts.
We are following the policy announced by the previous Government in April 2009 and are preparing a detailed commissioning strategy, which will involve putting all community payback services out to tender in a series of mini-competitions, phased over a period of time. Probation trusts will be able to compete to provide those services.
