Business, Innovation and Skills written question – answered at on 21 December 2010.
To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills whether he has commissioned research into the potential effects on broadcasters of the deployment of white-space devices; and if he will make a statement.
Ofcom has commissioned substantial research on the likelihood of interference from white space devices, so that it can be sure its regulation prevents harmful interference to users. Ofcom will only allow use of white space devices if they do not cause harmful interference to broadcasters. We therefore anticipate that there will no effect on broadcasters, and it is not necessary to commission research on this specific area.
