Energy and Climate Change written question – answered at on 13 December 2010.
To ask the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change what steps his Department is taking to reduce the administrative burden on those establishing community renewable energy projects.
My officials continue to engage with community groups and other organisations to identify any unnecessary administrative burdens associated with establishing a renewable energy project and to assess how they can be reduced.
The Environment Agency, for example, have been streamlining the permitting process for small hydro schemes, including a simplified application form and a named contact within the local area team.
The Department has also launched Community Energy Online, a web portal, to bring best practice and the best expertise to each community through the internet.
