To ask the Secretary of State for Health what priority is given to the allocation of funding from his Department's research budget for research which may lead to improvements in the detection and treatment of dementia.

Dementia devastates the lives of thousands of people in this country. The coalition's programme for government specifically noted our intention to prioritise dementia research-recognising the key role of research in developing improved detection and treatment options. The recent spending review confirmed that the Department of Health will increase spending on health research in real terms.
