To ask Her Majesty's Government what are the conditions for, and the proposed dates of, British withdrawal from Afghanistan.

The decision on when UK forces should start drawing down and the rate of reductions in force levels will be based on conditions on the ground. However, the Prime Minister recently reiterated in a Statement to Parliament following the NATO summit in Lisbon that, from 2015, there will be no UK troops in a combat role in Afghanistan. This is a firm commitment and is consistent with President Karzai's objective, agreed at the Lisbon summit, for the Afghans to lead and conduct security operations in all provinces by the end of 2014.

Beyond the end of combat operations in 2015, the UK will continue to have a defence relationship with Afghanistan that will include a training and mentoring role.
