To ask the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government what his policy is on the granting of planning permission for new low-level nuclear waste disposal sites.

Current planning policy on waste is set out in Planning Policy Statement 10: "Sustainable Waste Management". A planning application for a new low level nuclear waste disposal site will be determined in accordance with the statutory development plan for the area, unless material considerations indicate otherwise.
DECC will shortly publish for consultation a new strategy for the management of low level radioactive waste from the non-nuclear industry.
