As of 5 November 2010, three free school proposals from existing independent schools have been approved to progress to the business case and plan stage. The Free School programme aims to improve choice and drive up standards for all young people, regardless of their background. I welcome applications from independent schools that increase the diversity of provision in their area and provide an opportunity to bring high quality places into the state sector.
