To ask Her Majesty's Government what will be the role of local government in the proposed green deal; and what discussions they have had with councils or their representative organisations on the subject.

The green deal will provide the opportunity for all householders to take action to improve the energy efficiency of their homes and communities. We envisage that local authorities may want to play different roles in terms of the green deal, whether as green deal providers in their own right, or in forming partnerships with companies active in their areas. We are currently considering proposals from the Local Government Group around the contribution local government can make to the green deal. We will be discussing these proposals further in the coming months.

In addition, DECC Ministers have discussed the green deal with the Local Government Association (LGA) and a number of local authorities.
