We are concerned about the lack of humanitarian access to former combatants and the continued lack of clarity over their legal status. My right hon. Friend the Foreign Secretary and I raised these concerns with the Sri Lankan Foreign Minister during his visit to the UK on 19/20 October. Our High Commissioner in Colombo regularly raises these issues with the Sri Lankan Government. We hope that the interim recommendations of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission, seeking a speedy resolution of cases relating to detainees and information on their whereabouts, can be acted on promptly.
