To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what recent discussions he has had with representatives of the UN on the political situation in southern Sudan.

My right hon. Friend the Foreign Secretary announced on 2 November that Sudan would be the priority issue for the UK Presidency of the UN Security Council. He will chair a special session of the Security Council devoted to Sudan on 16 November. My right hon. Friend the Deputy Prime Minister and I participated in a high level meeting on Sudan on 24 September in New York.
