Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs written question – answered on 12th November 2010.
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what recent discussions he has had with his European Union counterparts on the environmental effects of holding plenary sessions of the European Parliament in Strasbourg; and if he will make a statement.
I have raised the dual sitting of the European Parliament in bilateral discussions with ministerial counterparts in other EU member states, with the European Commission and the European Parliament. This includes both the financial cost and the environmental impact. The Government will continue to press for the European Parliament to have only one seat, in Brussels.
