To ask the Secretary of State for Health what recent assessment his Department has made of the (a) safety and (b) viability of providing balloon dilation surgery to people diagnosed with chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency.

We understand that the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence is monitoring the availability of evidence relating to balloon angioplasty with or without stenting for chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency in multiple sclerosis as part of its interventional procedures programme and further information is available at:

The Department has undertaken no such assessments.
