To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what recent discussions he has had with ministerial colleagues on initiatives to assist the rural economy in Scotland.

We are fully committed to improving the lives of people living in rural areas. As an example, the highlands and islands is one of four rural areas in the UK selected to pilot the next generation of high speed broadband. Rolling out superfast broadband is of vital importance in ensuring the sustainability of our rural communities in the 21st century.
