House of Lords written question – answered on 26th October 2010.
To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they have made any assessment of whether £675,000 per annum is the appropriate remuneration package level for the Director General of the BBC.
This is a matter for the BBC Trust and the Government have not made an assessment.
Under the terms of the BBC's charter, it is the responsibility of the BBC Trust to ensure that the BBC delivers value-for-money to licence fee payers. The BBC should be prepared to defend all its expenditure decisions.
