To ask the Secretary of State for Transport how many Highways Agency staff have been (a) injured and (b) killed while collecting litter from motorways and trunk roads in each of the last five years.

The Highways Agency is responsible for picking litter on motorways and a small number of the all-purpose trunk roads.

No Highways Agency staff are involved in picking litter; the work is carried out by the agency's contractors.
