To ask the Secretary of State for Education whether students in receipt of education maintenance allowance who are commencing two-year courses in September 2010 will receive the allowance for the duration of the course.

Where eligible young people aged 16-19 in England fulfil the conditions required to receive education maintenance allowance (EMA), it will be paid in full in the 2010-11 academic year. Future spending decisions are subject to the spending review, which will conclude later this autumn.
