Nigeria is a hugely important country to the development of Africa. The Secretary of State has commissioned a review of the Department for International Development's (DFID)'s aid programmes around the world. The Nigeria programme is part of this. The outcome of the review will be used to inform the Department's spending plans, due to be brought to a conclusion in the autumn. In the meantime, DFID is continuing to implement its ongoing programme.

Secretary of State

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
