To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he has made recent representations to (a) the UN and (b) the Government of Morocco on a referendum on the future Government of the Western Sahara.

Lord Howell discussed the question of a referendum on the future status of Western Sahara with Ambassador Christopher Ross, the UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy for Western Sahara on 22 June 2010. Following their meeting, Ambassador Ross also discussed the issue in more detail with Foreign and Commonwealth Office officials.
