To ask the Minister of State, Department for Transport what recent assessment he has made of the adequacy of carriage provision for passengers from Greater Manchester on (a) Northern Rail and (b) Transpennine services; and if he will make a statement.
The Department for Transport has commissioned a study of current and forecast demand for rail passenger services in the North of England cities. Final results are expected shortly.
