To ask the Secretary of State for Health what assessment he has made of the effect of his Department's policies on the average life expectancy of (a) men and (b) women in York since 1997.

In the 10 years from 1997 to 2007, average life expectancy at birth has increased by 3.7 years for males and 1.9 years for females in the City of York unitary authority.
