To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions how much her Department spent on (a) council tax benefit and (b) housing benefit in 2008-09; how much her Department has spent on each benefit in 2009-10 to date; and how much she expects to be spent on each benefit in (i) 2009-10 and (ii) 2010-11.

1. Figures are for expenditure by DWP through subsidies to local authorities in respect of payments of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit to claimants. They do not include benefit payments funded directly by local authorities, or subsidy paid by DWP to cover administration of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit.

2. Figures for 2009-10 expenditure are for subsidy paid to local authorities up to and including February 2010.
