To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs what education and training resources his Department has made available to local authorities to assist in the implementation of the Animal Welfare Act 2006.

DEFRA provided a number of training sessions for local authority and animal health officers before the Act came into force in order that they could familiarise themselves with the new legislation.

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
