Home Department written question – answered at on 1 March 2010.
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many deportations have not been completed in the last five years.
Since 2007, approximately 3,500 removal directions have been initially unsuccessful (incomplete). The reason for this will vary but will include for example the late lodging of a judicial review or a claim for asylum or the receipt of further representations requiring consideration prior to removal. Where such an initial direction has not been completed, the UKBA has, in over 95 per cent. of cases, already reset the removal direction and removed the person.
Accurate figures relating to before 2007 are not available electronically and could only be obtained by investigating individual case-files. This would incur a disproportionate cost.
