Zambia has no outstanding bilateral debt to the UK. In April 2005 Zambia reached completion point under the heavily indebted poor countries initiative (HIPC), which aims to reduce external debt burdens of the most heavily indebted poor countries. This resulted in a full cancellation of Zambia's remaining bilateral debt owed to the UK.
