To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland pursuant to the answer of 7 December 2009, Official Report, columns 21-22W, on departmental pay, how many and what proportion of staff of his Department received both an annual performance bonus and an in-year bonus in 2008-09; what the largest combined bonus payment to an individual was; what proportion of staff received no bonus; and who was responsible for awarding such bonuses.
13 per cent. of staff in the Northern Ireland Office, 264 in total, received a non-consolidated performance payment and a special performance payment in 2008-09. The combined largest bonus was £2,040. 36 per cent. of staff did not receive either of these payments. Performance payment recommendations are made by line managers and are approved by Directors in each business area.
