To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many student visas were issued from the beginning of December 2008 to December 2009; and how many such visas were issued to students from (a) India, (b) Pakistan and (c) Bangladesh.

The total numbers of student visas issued globally, and to applicants from (a) India (b) Pakistan and (c) Bangladesh, in the period December 2008 to September 2009, are shown in the following tables. Sub-totals of student visas issued before and after the introduction of Points Based System Tier 4 (Students) on 31 March 2009 are also shown. Visa statistics for the last quarter of 2009 will be published on 25 February.
