To ask Her Majesty's Government what consideration has been given to capital spending plans on the East Coast mainline for the next ten years.

The independent Office of Rail Regulation has considered and approved the capital investment plan put forward by Network Rail for the enhancement of the East Coast Main Line in control period 4, which will be completed by 2014. Additionally, the East Coast Main Line will benefit from investment associated with the Thameslink program, and rolling stock will be upgraded with the planned introduction of Super Express Trains.
