To ask the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change if he will estimate the carbon dioxide emissions arising from the continuous operation of (a) televisions and (b) other electrical goods in electrical goods outlets.

I have been asked to reply.

No such estimate has been made by DEFRA. The Department holds no information on carbon dioxide emissions from televisions and other electrical goods displayed in shops.

Secretary of State

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
