To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many election observation missions planned by the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe/Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights for 2009 the UK plans to participate in; and how many observers his Department intends to fund.

We greatly value the election observation work of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). We will continue to uphold the commitment we made in 2004 to provide, from the UK, up to 10 per cent. of observers to the OSCE's election observation missions on an ad hoc basis. No decisions have been made on exact numbers for missions in 2009.
