The WMIK is used as a convoy patrol vehicle when operational commanders deem it to be a suitable vehicle for this role. The decision is taken by the operational commander in theatre on a case by case basis. The WMIK was first deployed to Afghanistan in 2006 and has been used as a convoy patrol vehicle since then.
