To ask the Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills how much has been claimed in reimbursable expenses by special advisers in his Department in 2008-09 to date.

Special advisers have claimed £1,770.74 in reimbursable expenses in 2008-09.
Special advisers are temporary civil servants and are therefore entitled to claim expenses available to other civil servants. Guidance on claiming expenses can be found in chapter 8 of the civil service guide:

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
